ABOUT THE PROJECT

A coastal café designed for all-season service.

Cargo Coffee is a beachside food and coffee business operating from Crantock Beach in Cornwall, serving customers directly on the sand during the summer months. This bespoke container conversion was developed as a permanent winter base, extending the operation beyond seasonal trading and providing a robust, weather-resistant hub for year-round service.

The design focused on durability, efficiency, and a strong coastal identity. External rough sawn timber cladding was used to soften the industrial form of the container while grounding it in its natural beach setting. Industrial-style metal branding added contrast and reinforced the café’s bold, contemporary identity.

Two serving hatches were incorporated into the design — one dedicated to ordering and one for collection — allowing for smooth customer flow and fast-paced service during busy beach periods.

The result is a practical yet characterful café container that supports Cargo Coffee’s beach truck operation while providing a reliable winter base just moments from the shoreline.
